A lot has already been reported about Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker, that they're Mormons, and in addition to that that they're married to each other and together with Zak Sally formed the uncomparable trio Low. Much more infrequently has been the disbelief that their more accessible songs on the last album such as "Dinosaur Act" and "Starfire" couldn't climb higher in the charts. Admittedly, the new album "Trust," their sixth long play LP, will now also lead to sleepless nights amongst those more delicately spirited listeners. The dark, threatening, fragile and completely fascinating folk art that the often "two-voiced" couple has developed in the last years does, of course, have more than one positive trait. A song like "John Prine" (it's quite nice that again in this way a folk music vetera of the '60s will be remembered) however, harkens back to the most sinister/calamitous song collection of the group from Duluth, "The Curtain Hits the Cast." At that point they were already most interested in quiety reflection. A solitude, so quiet, that it dins in one's ears.

Über Alan Sparhawk und Mimi Parker wurde nun schon recht häufig berichtet, dass sie Mormonen seien, obendrein miteinander verheiratet und gemeinsam mit Zac Sally das ziemlich unvergleichliche Trio Low bilden. Weitaus seltener wurde Unverständnis darüber geäußert, dass sich die zugänglichsten Songs der letzten Low-Alben - hier seien stellvertretend "Dinosaur Act" und "Starfire" genannt - nicht weit oben in den Charts platzieren konnten. Zugegeben: Auch "Trust", der nunmehr sechste Longplayer, wird den zarten Gemütern unter uns so manche Einschlafstörung bereiten. Der düster dräuende, zerbrechliche und ganz bezaubernde Folk des oftmals zweistimmig singenden Ehepaars entwickelte in den letzten Jahren allerdings den ein oder anderen positiven Zug. Ein Song wie "John Prine" (nett übrigens, dass auf diese Art wieder mal an den Folk-Veteranen der Siebziger erinnert wird!) jedoch weist zurück auf die unheilvollste Songsammlung der Band aus Duluth, "The Curtain Hits The Cast". Schon damals ging es Low immer auch um die Stille. Eine Stille, so leise, dass sie in den Ohren dröhnt.
